"The Force is what gives a Jedi his power," Obi-Wan Kenobi explains to Luke. "It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together."
[for book: perhaps this is the closest explanation we have of prana from pop culture….]
The scene makes me pause. We've been binge-watching Star Wars for the past month. Andor, the original trilogy, and now the prequels. I noticed that the Jedis speak the same language as the Yogis.
Prana. The vital force that permeates all existence. Just as the Jedi speaks of the Force flowing through every living thing, the Yogis taught that prana pulses through every atom of creation. It's in the air you breathe, the food you eat, the thoughts you think, the emotions you feel.
"Use the Force, Luke," Obi-Wan's voice echoes through the movies. The Jedi masters teach their apprentices to sense it, to draw upon it, to let it flow through them. And although we can't lift X-wings from swamps or deflect blaster bolts, we can harness this vital force through our breath.
Because every breath you take contains more than oxygen. Every breath is an opportunity to absorb prana, to increase your vitality, to enhance your life force.
Modern science might scoff at the idea of an all-pervading life force. But then again, a century ago, they would have laughed at the concept of quantum entanglement—particles instantly influencing each other across vast distances. Sometimes, ancient wisdom simply waits for science to catch up.
Next time you hear "May the Force be with you," remember that you don't need to be a Jedi to tap into universal energy. It's as close as your next breath. Through deep, intentional breathing that fills every corner of your lungs, you can enhance your connection to this vital force that surrounds you, flows through you, and binds all life together.
The force is strong with you. You just need to learn how to breathe.
